Social Media Optimization: Tweetdeck and Bit.ly

If you are a Twitter advocate and have a robust following, you probably have a hard time keeping track of it all. Two tools I use on a daily basis to make my tweeting experience more enjoyable and productive are Tweetdeck and Bit.ly. Both are readily available, free to use and highly recommended when trying to optimize your Twitter experience for marketing.
Tweetdeck – This is my favorite application for optimizing social media, most importantly, Twitter. It separates your tweets into columns of regular tweets and mentions, which makes it easier to track retweets. On top of that it will give you a twit scoop column of trending topics and a recommended column that highlights other Twitter accounts you may want to follow. Tweetdeck also integrates with Bit.Ly to make your long links into short links instantly. Additionally it will track your Facebook and MySpace accounts.
Bit.ly – When posting links on Twitter you should be using a link shortening tool. After all, you only get 140 characters to accomplish your goal. Bit.ly will actually shorten and track your links for you. The information it gathers about clicks and sharing of your links is invaluable. With the integration of Tweetdeck, posting short links on Twitter is seamless.
These two Twitter Optimization tools work together hand in hand to provide you with a better tweeting experience that is easy to track and maintain. Marketers are usually connected to large masses of followers and tweet a lot of information. Your number one priority is to track the effectiveness of your tweeting as well as all the incoming and outgoing tweets, so optimize that task by using the right tools.
“Twitter has gone in the way of YouTube. At first, people thought YouTube was silly and weird; they didn’t know how to YouTube and what a YouTube channel was. Now YouTube is synonymous, the industry standard, for online video — for everyday people to watch, upload and share videos, “Twitter is going through the same process. Twitter has become synonymous with quick, short opinion and perspective — coming from anyone, going everywhere.”
Twitter emphasized their news and information network strategy in November 2009 by changing the question it asks users for status updates from “What are you doing?” to “What’s happening?” Twitter is ranked as one of the 50 most popular websites worldwide by Alexa’s web traffic analysis.
I could not agree more Joseph. It seems like a lot of internet apps start off as social meeting places but then they become more marketed. Starting as a way to keep connected with friends, Twitter has transformed into a news medium for anyone with a following. This is a revolution that makes media more personal, up to date and friendly.
